Cyclone Yasi

After the great flood that hit much of Queensland during the Christmas/New Year period, we now have Cyclone Yasi bearing down on the northern part of the state.

Cyclone Yasi is a Category 5 Hurricane, much like Hurricane Katrina. It will come ashore at around 10 pm tonight, the eve of Chinese New Year.

Please spare a prayer tonight for all the people living in Northern Queensland. May they all be safe and well in the midst of all the destruction.

Om Mani Padme Hum!!

Update

It is the morning after. Cyclone Yasi has ripped through the cities of Northern Queensland.

Small coastal communities have borne the brunt of Cyclone Yasi's fury. There has been terrible damages, with one of every two homes and businesses flattened by the cyclone.

Cardwell, as well as Tully, Mission Beach, Silkwood were the worst-hit regions, while more than 177,000 Queenslanders are without power.

Fortunately, there has been no reports of serious casualties or deaths so far.

But the damages has been catastrophic with whole towns wiped out and downed power lines and debris blocking access to many of these towns.

Early today the cyclone has again been downgraded, to a category two.

With the passing of the cyclone, the rebuilding can now start.

Please continue to send your prayers to the people affected by the destruction of Cyclone Yasi.
